Commentary:I think the conflicts in this book are realistic and easy for many teenage girls to relate to. The believability of this book is high and likely. I would advise incoming freshmen girls to read this book before they go into high school.Speak is somewhat of a warning about high school, yet a taste of reality when going to school with older kids, especially older boys. It also deals with the drama of being cool or popular in school, older boys, frustrating parents, cliques, and friendships with different people.Melinda Sordino, the main character, is probably my favorite character, because her life is so interesting to read about. She evolves the most throughout the entire book, and it definitely makes for a very interesting story. In the beginning, it seems like Melinda is a shy and innocent wallflower.By the end, she has experienced a lot more than any average freshman girl. The experiences she faces helps her make all of her new friends. I really like the inspiration that the book brings. Melinda goes through a tragedy, but in the end, she learns to pull through and be confident about herself. If you like reading about intense high school drama with an inspiring and happy ending, then Speakis the book for you.
